Every Thursday starting in April, Jones the Grocer in Abu Dhabi is hosting a wine and cheese night! Not only do you learn about different cheeses, wines, their pairings but you get to indulge in their awesome free-flow concept. Unlimited wine and cheese from 7pm to closing every Thursday for AED 199!
We had the opportunity to attend their first wine and cheese night at their flagship branch in Abu Dhabi. Cheese expert Oliver Sutton was there to walk us through the different types of cheeses available and the suggested pairings.
Here is a brief summary of what I learned:
- Mozzarella Cheese – best paired with refreshing light wines.
- Raclette Cheese – Sauvignon Blanc or Red Cabernet can work
- Brie – Chardonnay or Sparkling Wine
- Compte – Sauvignon Blanc and many other wines can work well
- Goat Cheese/ Selle Sur Cher – any white wines
- Blue Cheese – a bold sweet wine like port is the best pairing
- Overall – most cheeses can work with any type of bubbly wine
My favorite was the french Selle-Sur-Cher goat cheese. It was so milky, smooth and reminded me of a thicker yogurt – I really love all things yogurt. This type of wine and cheese night at Jones is a perfect place to find your favorite cheese and pairing. They have both red and white wines available so you can really try for yourself the best pairing to each type of cheese.
Cheese varieties include Raclette cheese, Brie Meaux and Bleu des Causses (blue cheese) from France . Available in Jones the Grocer Mamoura, Muneera & Khalidiyah locations.

For the quality of cheese and wine you get at Jones, the pricetag of 199 dhs pp is really worth it. Also, there is no added tourism or hotel fees! It’s great to see events like these get hosted in Abu Dhabi. Gather your friends for a night to heighten your senses and tastebuds! I hope you will enjoy it as much as I did.
