We’ve experienced an afternoon tea like no other in Abu Dhabi. Imagine indulging in super unique Arabic pastries, overlooking the iconic grand mosque and getting a chance to choose a diamond for keeps! Shangri-La Abu Dhabi, Lobby lounge is currently offering the Diamond Afternoon Tea until January 26th.
Packages start at AED 266 for two people which include the afternoon tea set with coffee/tea. Each guest has a chance to pick a diamond! Offered daily 2:30pm – 6pm until January 26!
Welcome & Ambience
On Thursday afternoon, my friend and I were invited to try out the Afternoon Tea set at Shangrila. We were able to choose anywhere to sit where we picked the best seats in the house which is on their terrace with the amazing views of their infinity pool facing the iconic Grand Mosque. It was quite suitable for a desserts in the desert afternoon tea experience!
The staff was so amazing to us. It was my birthday that day so they even surprised me with a special birthday messages on the desserts and more! Thanks to Michaela, Elma and the rest of the team for such a lovely treat!
Pastries & Tea
The pastries came in pairs so that you and a guest can taste the same items. It comes in a beautiful 3 tier plated set complete with scones in a treasure chest.
This afternoon tea experience was one of the most unique in Abu Dhabi as the chefs have made every effort to infuse these pastries with local ingredients. You will find spices from Saffron to Curry being used in these desserts to mirror culture in Abu Dhabi.
Some of my favourite items was the prawn cocktail topped with cavier. It was beautifully presented in an oyster shell filled with top quality ingredients. The Crispy pita crouton with hummus was also a crowd pleaser especially for an Arabian themed set. Finally we tasted some unusual but must-try desserts such as the Curry Orange Cheesecake, Zaatar Strawberry Tarts and Chocolate Balls filled with Camel Milk! And no afternoon tea set is complete without fully scones. They present it so luxuriously like finding gold bars in a treasure chest.

Diamond Experience
As part of the Diamond Afternoon Tea, each guest can choose a diamond from their showcase. There are 3 REAL diamonds valued at more than AED 2000. We got to choose from among two dozen jewellery boxes so the odds of winning are quite high! Diamonds are provided by The Diamond Gallery which is right next door at the Souk. Once we selected our jewellery boxes, there comes the BIG reveal to open your prize!
Each guest WILL see a nice sparkly diamond but will it be the real deal? The only way to tell is by visiting the Diamond Gallery next door to prove its value.
